Scene Snippet

On That, I Swear.

Fairy lights hum softly. The room holds its breath while Max and Sarah promise each other they are still here, still breathing, still theirs.

Open Snippet
It’s quiet in that way only magic can be quiet, like even the air is holding its breath. The fairy lights hum softly. Weller’s hand stays on her phone camera. Dan adjusts his tie for the tenth time, then clears his throat, voice rough but warm. “Alright. We’re here to do something stupidly beautiful.” He glances at Max. “You start, before you combust.” Max gives a shaky laugh. “Yeah… figures.” He looks at her—at her—and everything else just dissolves. His hand trembles as he starts. “I promised to love you in chaos and calm…” The words crack halfway out. He swallows hard, forces a breath. “And I meant it.” A nervous laugh from Billy breaks the tension. Max smiles wetly, eyes shining. “Back then, I didn’t really know what chaos meant. Not like this. I said I’d hold your hand when you fell…” His voice drops, barely a whisper. “Didn’t think we’d fall this far.” He exhales through his nose, shaky, a small chuckle. “But we’re still here. Still breathing. Still us.” Sarah nods once, lip trembling. “You’ve been through hell,” he says, voice softening. “And somehow came back brighter. You make me wanna try harder. Cook too much. Build things out of broken furniture because you make the wreckage worth rebuilding.” He wipes his cheek with the back of his hand, laughs through it. “I won’t run anymore. I won’t hide behind the noise in my head. I’ll keep showing up for you, for us. You’re my light, my calm, my proof the world can still be good.” His breath shakes, but he finds her eyes. “I’ll love you through every storm that’s left.” The corner of his mouth curves, just a ghost of a smile. “On that, I swear.” Sarah takes a breath like she’s pulling courage straight from the air. Her hands shake a little as she holds her bouquet steady. “I promised to love you through the good and the bad… and I still do.” Her voice wavers, then steadies. “I’m sitting here to remind you of the amazing man you are. No matter how rough it gets, you stay. You always stay.” She lets out a soft laugh, half-crying. “And somehow, you still cook like it’s a love language.” He laughs too, eyes glassy, hand over his mouth. “I promise to hold you through every storm, to chase joy with you every chance we get. I promise never to take you for granted again. Knowing how much I hurt you...” Her voice fractures on hurt. She breathes. “…broke me.” She continues “You’re my world. My reason to keep going. My soulmate. And I’m so damn lucky to still be here, to have another chance with you.” She looks straight at him, tears streaking but smiling anyway. “I’ll always be here. Still yours. On that, I swear.” He laughs under his breath, a watery sound. “You’re not allowed to out-vow me.” She grins, whispering back, “Too late.” She reaches behind the bouquet, hands shaking slightly, and pulls out the carved wooden heart. The one cut from the salvaged breakfast-bar wood, the piece his dad once touched. The moment she places it in his palm, everything stops. His face goes blank then crumples. His thumb grazes the familiar engraving, the one he never told anyone about. His lips part, words stumbling out “How… how did you...” Sarah’s voice is barely above a whisper. “Dan helped. I just… thought you should have it. Something to hold when it hurts.” Max’s breath hitches. A single tear rolls down his cheek before he can stop it. He clutches the heart to his chest, shaking his head in disbelief, muttering, “No one knew… no one knew.” Billy’s camera trembles, he’s crying and filming at the same time. Dan clears his throat, eyes glinting with tears he’ll deny later. “By the power vested in me by… uh, friendship and dumb luck. Kiss her already before I start bawling.” Max doesn’t wait. He moves in like gravity’s finally been given permission. One hand slides around the back of her neck, thumb trembling against her jaw; the other still clutches the carved heart to his chest. For half a second he just looks at her, the shimmer of her tears, the way her lips tremble in a smile and then he closes the gap. The kiss is desperate and steady all at once, the kind that steals breath and gives it back softer. Her fingers catch in the fabric of his jacket; his palm presses too hard, leaves the faint grain of the wooden heart against her cheek. Someone (Billy) actually whoops, but neither of them notice. It’s heat and salt and relief; a hundred unsaid thank-yous and never-agains tangled together. When they finally pull apart, foreheads touching, both of them laughing and crying in the same breath, the world feels brand-new. “Still here,” he whispers, voice breaking into her smile. “Still yours,” she answers, barely sound, but it lands like a vow.

Vibe: vows, love, recovery, still here

Story Notes

Prequel ideas

This one started off sad and dramatic. I've hinted at their backstory. Maybe I start a backstory - story for how Max and Sarah met. They're both streamers so... a convention? Note the dates maybe? - already said bowling was one, max was awful. - Max loves to cook, maybe a picnic? it'd fit the photo i reference. - Who else from current timeline would know them? Billy? Who's friend? - How popular are either of them at this stage? - Are the personalities different? I think I said 10 years theyve been together so... make it 2015/2016 referencial. - Siege released in 2015 and Max loves that game present day? Could be a good start.

Vibe: Whole story start ideas, Rambling to self.

Story Notes

Scene ideas - Max streams?

Ideas for scenes • Fake stream - do a full one? - Narrate gameplay - Make up some segments. Reddit readings? - Punishments? - How would Max present? Loud, Entertaining? Do I make the whole scene the stream? Do I include chat? - Are they insane? Speech? “Helloooo internet, welcome to the chaos control room I am your host Max!” - Cringe? Idk. "Today we've got a jam packed stream for you, first up we have...." - maybe show format? He seems like type to do so. He needs a consistent sign off and start up if I do add these kinda scenes.

Vibe: Scene ideas, chaos, brain dumps.

Story Notes

Progression notes - Rebuilding & relapse

Moving forward: • Max starts streaming more aggressively to pay bills + distract fear • Chat is like “WHERE IS THE QUEEN?!” • He lies: “Resting. Recovering.” • He’s working harder, losing sleep, hypervigilant • She sees the growing stans + the spotlight and she HATES IT Her internal monologue becomes vicious: “My existence is expensive.” “He would be free without me.” “I’m the reason he’s suffering.” “I ruin everything he builds.” Her self-worth? Straight down the existential garbage chute

Vibe: Regression, recovery, moving forward with issues. New normal.

The Reckoning

The courtyard reeked of rain and disinfectant. Reporters shifted, microphones angled like bayonets.

Open Snippet
“She’s alive,” he said, the words dragging through gravel. “She’s fighting. Every breath she takes is a decision she makes in a world that made her think choosing to leave was the only way to escape her pain.” The flash of a camera fractured his outline; the light felt colder for it. He didn’t stop. “You turned that pain into a product. You reached for a bottom line while she was falling, and then you demonised me, her husband, the only one who tried to help her. You made a show of her unravelling and you called it news.” Air thickened; the smell of ozone pressed against him. “I owe you nothing. My wife owes you nothing. I’m here to keep her alive. I’m a man who failed sometimes, who shouted and who begged, but who sat in that chair when the cameras were gone. You weren’t there, you were typing. You weren’t witnesses, you were spectators watching someone waste away for entertainment.” He flexed his hands, pulse pounding in the whitened knuckles, then forced them still. “If you wanted a story, fine... Write this down. The woman you’re trying to package for clicks is not your story. She’s a person who gave her heart to her fans. And in return for her kindness and her soul? You made a spectacle; you do not get to be the judge, jury, and executioner on who is worth being around and who isn’t.” Wind slid through the cables, the sound thin and electric. “If any of you out there have ever gone through problems... mental, physical, spiritual even. Then you’ll know how it feels when people don’t believe you, when they knock you down. Think back to school and your bullies. Now imagine tens of thousands of eyes on you, voices nit-picking every little thing about you, day in and day out. That’s my wife’s life. That’s my life. And here you are, all right here, right now, perpetuating the cycle, and she’s not even fucking awake.” He breathed once, trembling only at the jaw. “Shame on you.” The courtyard light dimmed as clouds swallowed the sun; the air itself recoiled. Silence sharpened until it stung. Then another voice, careful, falsely kind. “Some people online are saying… maybe it would be kinder if she never woke up. What do you think, Max?” The word kinder cut through him like winter. “Kinder,” he repeated, voice flat as glass. “Kinder if she didn’t wake up.” The lamp flared red behind the window. Somewhere in the crowd, Billy whispered, don’t. He moved forward. The microphones shivered; even the rain seemed to hesitate. “Kinder,” he said again, quieter. “For whom? For you, who want a neat ending you didn’t earn? For the algorithms that need tidy arcs? Would it be kinder to erase the fact we failed her so we can pretend we didn’t, or kinder to actually be present?” The air around him hummed with static. “You have no right to imagine her death as comfort. You don’t get to decide a stranger’s life for your convenience.” He leaned in until the nearest lens fogged from his breath. “Say that again,” he murmured, “and I won’t repeat myself.” Then he turned toward the doors.

Vibe: reckoning, defense, monologue, high drama

Dialogue Fragment

Aggressively, With Receipts

Billy appears: hoodie half-zipped, hair wild, phone in one hand, sheer panic powering his lungs. “DO YOU PEOPLE REALISE HOW MANY CALLS I’VE MADE? SIX HOSPITALS! THREE POLICE STATIONS! A PET CLINIC THAT WOULDN’T CONFIRM OR DENY KNOWING A SMALL SENTIENT BAKED GOOD! GOOGLE MAPS GAVE UP ON ME! IT SAID, ‘BRO, YOU’RE ON YOUR OWN!’ I HAVE BURNED MORE FUEL AND DIGNITY THAN ANY MAN SHOULD IN THE NAME OF FRIENDSHIP!” The nearest nurse blinks. “Sir—visiting hours ended—” “SO DID MY SANITY!” he bellows. “I’M VISITING ANYWAY! AGGRESSIVELY! WITH RECEIPTS!”

Vibe: panic, friendship, chaos logistics

Scene Fragment

The Flicker

Billy stands frozen at the foot of the bed, eyes wet. “Did she—?” Dan nods once, slow, reverent. “Yeah.” Max leans forward until his forehead nearly touches her hand. Tears slip unchecked down his face. “You found me,” he breathes. “You came back.” Her eyelids flutter. Another sound, softer this time, almost like a sigh brushes the air. It could be him. It could be home. It doesn’t matter which. The monitor tone warms, steady and sure, like the universe humming approval.

Vibe: love, reunion, hope.

Scene Fragment

Grief

The bottle sat empty between his shoes, forgotten. His voice dropped to a whisper. “I’ll stop bothering you for tonight, old man.” He swallowed hard, breath trembling. “Just… if you do hear me... you were the greatest dad I could’ve asked for. And I’m sorry for being such a terrible son.” He bent forward, elbows on his knees, face in his hands. The sobs came quiet but deep, shoulders shaking as fairy light pooled around him. “Goodnight, Dad,” he choked. The wind shifted. The lights flickered once, one soft blink of mint across the arch, almost like an answer. Inside, Billy wiped at his eyes with the back of his sleeve. Dan reached out to close the window without a word. The garden stayed quiet long after his sobs faded, the air thick with the kind of love that hurt to remember and hurt worse to lose.

Vibe: love, loss, seeking guidance

Scene Snippet

The Collapse

He’s not improving, if anything the situation is becoming scarier. His eyelids drop too far, a slow, dangerous roll, and his next inhale barely makes it.

Open Snippet
The drop in his eyelids isn’t gentle this time. It’s scary. A slow, dragging roll like someone is slowly pulling them closed with string. And the inhale that barely makes it? That’s the kind of breath people take when their body is trying to power down without their permission. The second she tilts the seat back, just enough to stop gravity from stealing him, not enough to choke his airway... his body responds, but not in the comforting way she wants. His chest rises, barely. Then stutters. Then pauses too long. His pulse under her fingers sputters fast, fast, skip... that thin, wispy thready flutter that feels like he’s hanging on by a thread. When she commands “Eyes on me, big guy! NOT the dark.” His eyes try, oh god they try. But they lift only half mast, pupils blown, flickering like a bad bulb. “…Ss.. Ss... Sarah…” Barely a whisper, more air than voice. That is NOT stable or improving, and that is absolutely NOT a good sign. Her “can you give me a full breath?” hits him like a freight train and he tries. His chest expands weakly, uneven like a muscle that forgot how to be a muscle. He gets half a breath in... then chokes on the rest, a thin gasp cutting out halfway. His head tilts toward her, not controlled nor intentional. It falls toward her hand because his neck muscles don’t have the strength to hold it up. She feels it, she feels exactly how limp he’s getting. His forehead brushes her cheek, a cold sweat gathering at his hairline. “…Sar..… I can’t… t’s hard…” The words slur. Just slightly. Just enough to spike her adrenaline even further. Her palm hits his chest... firm, grounding, commanding and his body with a faint trembling inhale like her voice physically drags oxygen into his lungs. But it’s weak, so weak. His pulse jumps again under her fingers. Fast. Thin. Fluttering... Then SKIP. His whole body gives a tiny jerk with it. It's not a seizure it’s just his body saying: “I'm seconds from dropping... Hard if something doesn’t change.” His eyes roll again.. slow and dangerous. That half fade backward that screams he’s losing the surface. His hands don’t move, his legs are deadweight, his breathing is shallow, oh so shallow... Then a sharp involuntary gasp breaks through his chest like he’s trying to drag himself back to her. “Sar...” barely audible nothing more than a rasp. It's a plea, a warning all in one broken sound. “..don’… let… go...” escapes him and then his breath catches. It doesn't stop, it doesn't fail, it just catches like his lungs stall halfway through the cycle. His pulse stutters in her fingers again, a sharp, alarming misfire. His eyelids twitch, then drop, then flicker and she sees it. He’s seconds from losing consciousness, she's seconds from possibly really losing him. He's not gone, not yet. Not unreachable but right at the edge. Her next action, command or physical move is the only thing standing between him and the darkness fully pulling him under.

Vibe: Intense drama, collapse, heartbreak
